The centre of sapphire-bearing region. It is 44 km north of Kanchanaburi, where the production of sapphire began in 1921.
The sapphire-bearing placer deposits occupy an area exceeding 70 sq km, occur in layers of sand and gravel 10 to 15 cm thick at depths of 5 to 15 m from the surface.
Spinel, pyroxene and
garnet are common.
