Inn-gaung-pyant, Kyatpyin Central, Mogok Township, Pyin-Oo-Lwin District, Mandalay Region, Myanmar

The mining area of Inn-gaung-pyant (Plains of the Head Pond) comprises several dozen joint ventures, stretching about 2 km along the northern side of the Mogok-Mandalay road. Faceting grade rubies and sapphires, some of fine quality, together with spinel, tourmaline, orthoclase and zircon are recovered from the alluvium, using open-pit mechanized mining methods. Good quality cabochon-grade rubies weighing up to 6 carats are frequently found.
