Cambodia

Two large sapphire-bearing regions are known in Cambodia; one in the west at Pailin, near the boundary with Thailand (Battambang Province), and one in the northeast near Bo Keo (Ratnakiri Province), where gem-quality zircon is widely distributed. Sapphires and zircons are extracted from residual eluvial and alluvial placer deposits, related to Neogene-Quaternary basalt.
