Capoeirana claim, Nova Era, Minas Gerais, Brazil

The Capoeirana (Nova Era) mine, 10 km SE of the Belmont mine, began operating in 1988.

It has similar geological structure to the Belmont deposit, the emeralds are disseminated in biotite-phlogopite rock. The physical and chemical properties, inclusions are identical to the Belmont emeralds. Emerald crystals are up to 10 cm long. The colour is predominantly light green and of moderate intensity. Small stones (up to 3 ct when cut) may be dark green (Epstein, 1989).
