Kukurt river, Gorno-Badakhshan, Tajikistan

The main site of ruby concentration at the Kukurt deposit.

The corundum-bearing layer of grey, coarse-grained calcite marble about 20 m thick occurs between kyanite-garnet-biotite schists and a layer of yellow marble. Two en echelon mineralized zones, which are parallel to the bedding planes, have been traced along strike for 150 and 200 m.
