Gyoung-U-bar, Kyatpyin Central, Mogok Township, Pyin-Oo-Lwin District, Mandalay Region, Myanmar

The old mining site is situated on the eastern side of the Pingu-taung foothills, adjacent to Pan-ma quarters. Mostly yellow and fewer blue sapphires were mined from the alluvium, using small scale open-pit methods. Most yellow sapphires are light in tone and saturation, but when properly polished can be very attractive. Parti-color (yellow and blue) sapphires are also found in the same area often weighing over 5 carats.
