Yauli Province, Junín, Peru

Abundant rough variscite was produced at the beginning of 2011, reputedly from the vicinity of Yauli, about 20 km east of Huancavelica city. The material is light green, rarely also grey-green. Hollow cavities up to more than 2 cm long are typical for the locality. The cabochons are quite attractive, some parts are grey to greenish-grey with a lamellar agate-like structure. The new rough forms veins, not nodules. Density 2.12 - 2.23, hardness 4, RI 1.55 - 1.56, LWUV - weak green-yellow.
