Ankadilalana emerald mine, Ambalahosy Nord, Mananjary District, Vatovavy Fitovinany, Madagascar

Near the settlement of Kianijavato. Emerald was extracted from the biotite rock containing small segregations of quartz and plagioclase, as well as accessory apatite, hornblende, zircon, tourmaline, and monazite. The emerald crystals have a short-prismatic habit and a distinct bluish colour. The inclusions are biotite, vanadium mica, apatite, hematite, ilmenite, quartz and numerous tube-shaped, feather-shaped and equidimensional gas-liquid inclusions, some in the form of negative crystals.
