Uchucchacua Mine, Uchucchacua area, Oyón District, Oyón Province, Lima, Peru

A banded mixture of rhodonite with black alabandine is known from the Socorro section of the Uchucchacua mine.

Red to pink rhodochrosite crystals, they are commonly transparent, but the size is often only about 1 cm. Some larger faceted stones up to 13.88 ct exist and count among the world's best. Some crystals may contain inclusions of native silver.
