Vorondolo pegmatite field, Madagascar

Vorondolo pegmatite district is situated southeast of Antsirabe. Pegmatites of the Beryl-Columbite Subtype occur close to the Vorondolo Mountains. The area is actively mined for rose quartz , frequently of very high quality. Both pink, star and pink, gemmy quartz are locally found. Well-formed almandine-spessartine garnet occurs locally. In 2000, significant gemmy, yellow heliodor crystals were found in miarolitic cavities along with struverite and garnet.
