Santiago river Amber occurrence, Amazonas, Peru

A small locality on the Santiago river in far northern Peru. The amber comes from the Neogene period, about 20 million years old.

The amber forms transparent pieces up to 12 cm across. Approximately 80% of them contain fossils, especially insects.
