Makar-Ruz, Priuralsky District, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Russia

Makar-Ruz ruby deposit in the Polar Ural Mountains is 130 km southeast of Vorkuta, in the Rai-Iz ultramafic massif, part of the Lower Paleozoic Khodatin-Voikar-Syn'insky ophiolite belt. The deposit contains very few gems, but is widely known for its specimens of anorthosite with large deep-red ruby crystals.
