Paste (Common or Silica Glass)

Paste is the traditional gem name for low-value glass gemstones made with common, or silica glass. This glass, essentially the same as is used for windows or bottles, is cheap and has very poor RI and dispersion, so paste gemstones are often backed with metal foils to increase their brilliance.
